
Dr Spahiu is a radiation oncologist and Head of the Radiation Therapy Department at “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center in Tirana, the only public radiotherapy facility in Albania. He leads national efforts to expand and improve radiotherapy services and teaches at the University of Medicine, Tirana. Originally from Albania, he completed his medical degree at the University of Medicine in Tirana and pursued advanced training in radiotherapy through IAEA-supported fellowships across Europe. He earned his PhD from the University of Turin, where he focused on functional outcomes in patients with head and neck cancer.
His clinical and research work centers on predictive and functional radiotherapy, treatment optimization, and quality-assurance systems, with presentations at ESTRO, ESMO, ASCO, and IMACC.
Dr Spahiu joined GLOW to contribute to global efforts toward equitable access to radiotherapy and to support collaborative education and research in oncology.
